Take your family safety and legal compliance requirements seriously

Vehicle Safety Certificates Queensland (VSCQ) now offer a mobile weighbridge service which comes to you, wherever you are, for your convenience and safety.

The weighing equipment we use is specialised to measure the weight of the vehicle or caravan via each wheel placed upon it. This can be by each axle, the total number of axles, or the tow-ball weight. A weight compliance report, with these measurements included, then compares them with the details which are present on the compliance plate of the vehicle or caravan.

Get serious about the safety of your family, compliance requirements, and other road-users.

  • Check with us the details on your caravans compliance plate.
  • Become familiar with the weights of your vehicle or caravan, their limits, and what it all means!

Unsure what this all means or if you need this?

What do the weights mean?

Tare weight can be found on the Caravans Vehicle Compliance Plate. This is the total dry weight of the caravan as it leaves the factory with all accessories fitted, including empty water tanks and gas bottles.

The GTM is the maximum allowable weight the fully loaded caravan imposes on the ground through its axle or axles, but does not include the tow ball mass.

The ATM is the total weight of the fully loaded caravan, unhitched from the tow vehicle. The ATM includes the total weight of the axle or axles plus the weight imposed on the tow ball. The ATM must not exceed the maximum towing capacity of the tow vehicle.

Tow ball mass measures the weight the caravan imposes on the tow vehicle. The maximum tow ball weight for the tow vehicle can be found on the compliance plate on the tow-bar.

Braked Towing Capacity is the maximum allowable weight that can be towed by a vehicle, and is recorded on the vehicle compliance plate.

Gross Vehicle Mass is the total weight of the fully-loaded tow vehicle. It includes full fuel tanks, passengers, cargo, after market accessories, and also includes the tow ball mass of the caravan.

The Gross Combination Mass is the total weight of the entire rig, encompassing the fully loaded caravan and fully loaded tow vehicle. The maximum allowable GCM is recorded in the vehicle owners log book or on the vehicle compliance plate.
